Can Square set my prices from cost automatically?
Not by itself. When a seller asked for automatic markup on the Square Community (opens in a new tab) in April 2025, a Square moderator pointed them to the feature request board. Another seller suggested using Excel formulas on an exported catalog.
CatalogRoute does that math for you. Square stores the unit cost and the price (opens in a new tab) of each variation as separate fields, and the pricing rule works out a new price for every row from its cost. You'll find the pricing rule under Settings on the Review step.
What is the difference between markup and margin?
Markup multiplies the cost. Margin is the share of the price you keep after paying the cost. A cost of 6.00 at a markup of 1.5 gives 9.00, which is a 33% margin. The same cost at a 40% target margin gives 10.00.
Ending every price in .99
In the same pricing rule, pick End in .99 under Rounding. End in .95 and End in .00 are there too, and rounding never takes a price below cost.
Never lower a price keeps your Square price whenever the rule would set a lower one. If a supplier has raised prices, read what to do when a supplier raises prices.
