Import stock counts into Square from a spreadsheet
Import stock counts from a supplier file and check each number first. The tool never picks a quantity column from the numbers alone, because a year or a pack size looks the same.

Choosing how stock is written
Leave it on Ignore supplier quantity unless you want to change stock. Every new supplier starts there, and it writes no count at all. The other settings write New Quantity, and Square replaces the count (opens in a new tab) with whatever is in that cell. A zero sets that location to zero.
Set my stock to supplier quantity writes the supplier's figure as your new count. Add supplier quantity to my stock is meant for a delivery. It needs your Square export next to the supplier file, and it writes your count plus theirs. Without an export you get only Ignore and Set. The tool remembers your choice for each supplier.

Quantities that are not plain numbers
A unit after the number, such as 12 pcs or 3 ea, is read as the number. A range such as 10-20, or a word such as call, is flagged as not a number. Counts below zero get flagged too. You see every flagged count before anything reaches New Quantity.
Check the location as well. The count goes into the New Quantity column for the location you pick, and other locations keep their own counts. Counts only land on items that already track inventory in Square (opens in a new tab). Tracking is set per item, and an import does not turn it on.
